1988 Tudor Prince Oysterdate 75000 breathes understated luxury. The smooth stainless steel polished bezel and 34mm Rolex oyster case make this watch blend in on
the wrist and the silver linen dial has a different hue and
texture in every
lighting situation. These linen dials are quite rare and it’s difficult
to find one in good condition. This particular watch is powered by the
Tudor-finished ETA 2824-2, ticking away at 28,800 bph and features all
the traits of the 2824-2 (hand wind, hack, quick set), but with Tudor
tweaks like an upgraded shock protection system from the ETA incabloc to
the Rolex KAF system. Movement is
clean, keeps excellent time and has excellent power reserve. I do not
have service papers or a service history for this watch however (but
it’s been working flawlessly during my ownership). Sad to see it go, but
I am changing up my collection (and I have too many Tudors).
twinlock Rolex-signed crown engages easily and screws in firmly. The
case has some wear, but nothing major or out of place for a 1988 watch. Serial number is 234215 (putting it at 1988 for its age).
Lugs are in excellent shape, no overpolishing at all (drilled lug
openings are still circular). The case probably has been refinished at some point in its life, but is looking in excellent condition (see pictures). That’s not unexpected for a almost 40 year old watch. The acrylic
crystal has recently been polished with some
PolyWatch to clean up some daily wear marks, and only has some minor signs of wear remaining and overall shines brightly. The hands and lume
are in excellent condition for its age, no oxidation as far as I can
see on the lume, some very minor oxidation on the rhodium coating on the minute hand.
